Dry dog food, or kibble, is easy to store, simple to portion and good value, which is why so many UK owners feed it. Here is what we usually tell people.
Start with their life stage
Puppies need more energy, protein and calcium to grow, so feed a dry puppy food until they are fully grown. That is around 12 months for most breeds, and up to 18 to 24 months for large and giant breeds. Then move onto adult dry food, and think about a senior recipe from around age seven.
Match the kibble to their size
Small breeds burn energy quickly and do best with small kibble they can crunch easily. Large breeds need bigger pieces, controlled growth as puppies and joint support as they get older. Use the Breed Size filter above to see recipes made for your dog, from toy breeds right up to giants.
Read the label
Look for the word "complete", which means the food meets all of your dog's daily needs on its own, and a named meat near the top of the ingredients. "Chicken" tells you more than "meat and animal derivatives". Browse our highest quality recipes, or our everyday favourites if you want something tried and trusted.
Grain free or with grain
Most dogs digest grains well, so grain free is not automatically better. It is a good option for dogs with a grain sensitivity, and our natural recipes suit owners who want a simpler ingredients list. Our own Huntland and Taylor's Natural Co. recipes are a good place to start.
Feed for their health
For weight, skin, joint or digestive issues, shop dry food by health condition. Use the Special Diet filter to find limited ingredient, low fat or high-protein kibble. Speak to your vet before starting a veterinary diet.
Portions, storage and switching
Start with the feeding guide on the pack, which is based on your dog's weight, and always leave fresh water out, as dry food contains little moisture. Keep kibble sealed in its bag in a cool, dry place. When changing food, mix it in over 7 to 10 days. Not sure your dog will like it? Try a trial size first.
Found a dry food your dog loves? Pop it on Bottomless Bowl. It turns up before the bag runs out, you save on every order, and you can pause or cancel whenever you like.

Yes. A complete dry food gives your dog everything they need each day, and it is convenient and good value. Always leave fresh water out, as kibble contains little moisture. Some owners add wet food or a topper for extra flavour. Big bags are heavy, so delivery is free on orders over £59.99.
It depends on the brand, the recipe and your dog's size. Bigger bags usually work out cheaper per kilo, so a 12kg or 15kg bag is often the best value if you have the space. Check the cost per day on each product page to compare fairly, and set your food up on Bottomless Bowl to save on every delivery.
It depends on your dog's size and daily portion. As a rough guide, a 12kg bag fed at 300g a day lasts about 40 days. Check the feeding guide on the pack for your dog's amount. Set your food up on Bottomless Bowl and it arrives before you run out, with a saving on every delivery.
Keep kibble in its original bag, rolled down and sealed, inside an airtight container in a cool, dry place. The bag keeps the fat fresh and has the batch and best before details on it. If a big bag goes stale before your dog finishes it, try a smaller size, or use Bottomless Bowl for regular, fresher deliveries.
