How Seresto Flea and Tick Collars Work

How to Fit the Seresto Collar

Cutaneous use. One collar per animal to be fastened around the neck.
Remove collar from protective bag directly before use. Unroll collar and make sure that there are no remnants from the plastic connectors inside the collar. Adjust the collar around the animal's neck without tightening it too tight (as a guide, it should be possible to insert 2 fingers between the collar and the neck). Pull excess collar through the loop and cut off any excess length extending beyond 2 cm.

The collar should be worn continuously for the 7–8-month protection period and should be removed after the treatment period. Check periodically and adjust fit, if necessary, especially when puppies are rapidly growing.

I have never had a flea problem before. Where are my pets picking up fleas?

Fleas are very hardy pests. Your pet is potentially exposed to fleas every time they step outside your house, especially in areas where there are other animals. As stray or homeless animals are not being cared for, even a single feral cat passing through your garden can leave behind flea eggs that are then picked up by your cat or dog. Fleas may also be brought into the house through clothing, luggage, or non-treated pets in your neighbourhood.

What are the benefits of Seresto?

Seresto's unique polymer matrix contains two active ingredients:

Imidacloprid controls flea infestations 
Flumethrin effectively repels and kills ticks

The active ingredients spread from the site of direct contact over the skin surface, and is continuously replenished in low concentrations as they wear off over time. Bayer's unique polymer matrix technology means the active ingredients remain effective for up to eight months, a duration that makes it clearly different from other flea and tick collars.

How quickly will the collar begin working?

Seresto kills existing fleas on dogs within 24 hours after application. Once Seresto has been on your dog for 24 hours, re-infesting fleas are killed within two hours. Infestation prevention with new ticks starts within 48 hours after Seresto collar application. Re-infesting ticks are repelled and/or killed in as quickly as 6 hours.

Is Seresto water resistant?

Seresto is water resistant. It is unnecessary to remove the collar before your dog is immersed in water because Seresto remains effective following a shampoo treatment, swimming, or after exposure to rain or sunlight. In order to maintain an 8-month duration, dogs must not be bathed more than once per month. For dogs that swim once a month or more, the control duration is reduced to five months for fleas and seven months for ticks.

What if my dog gets stuck while wearing a Seresto collar?

Seresto is designed with a safety release mechanism. In the unlikely event your dog becomes trapped, its own strength is sufficient to widen the collar and allow for a quick release. Seresto collars for small dogs are also equipped with a predetermined breaking point, so a harder pull will trigger the breaking of the collar.

When can I bathe my dog after application for Seresto for dogs?

We recommend bathing BEFORE applying product. The product can be applied once the pet is towel dried. There is no need to remove the collar for bathing. Please use a non-stripping, pet shampoo.

How do I store and dispose of Seresto?

Store in the original unopened container in a cool, dry place inaccessible to children.
Dispose of container, pouch and expired collar in the bin.
