Key Points

Suitable for: All puppies as a complete and balanced diet to support their growth into adulthood.

Main Ingredient: The main ingredient is chicken (18%), a good protein source; much better than most diets that use cereal as the main ingredient!

Main Meat Source: The exact origin of the chicken is not listed, but poultry is a good protein source.

Protein Amount: This diet is 30% protein; a more-than-enough amount for puppies.

Product Aim: To support the growth of healthly puppies, while also promoting brain and vision development and immunity from containing DHA and colostrum like in mothers’ milk.

Allergy Benefits: None listed for product but the ingredients used are not known to commonly cause allergic reactions.

Is it a natural product? Yes; the diet does not list any named 'articifial' ingredients.

Does it include any additives? The additives used are added to benefit the puppy's health; vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Wind, bad breath, fur & teeth benefits? A healthy coat and skin is aided by omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Colostrum in the diet helps avoid common puppy upsets. Dry food helps ‘clean' the teeth and avoid bad breath.

Can I only feed this one product? Yes, it is a complete food so you don’t need to feed any other food, just supply fresh clean water too.

PetShop.co.uk’s Full View

PURINA® PRO PLAN® Dog Medium Puppy with OPTISTART® Rich in Chicken Dry Food is a complete and balanced diet for growing puppies, made with chicken, wheat and highly digestible rice for quality nutrition and palatability. It is specially formulated to help boost your puppy's health just like the mothers' milk would by added colostrum and DHA to support healthy immunity and vision and brain development.

How does it keep my puppy fit and healthy?

Brain and Vision - Contains DHA like mothers' milk to support eye and brain development.
Immunity - Includes colostrum, like in the mothers' milk, to support a healthy immune system.
Skin and Coat - Provides essential fatty acids for a thick and glossy coat.
Digestion - Contains rice and colostrum for easy digestibility and to avoid stomach upsets.
Growth - Has a good amount of calcium and phosphorus to support growing. Also has a neccessary higher amount of fats (oils) to aid the energy needs of growing active puppies.

And, how do I feed it to my puppy?

You can just give the dry food straight to your puppy in a bowl, but for puppies under 3 months it is best to mix in a little water to make the food moist. Always follow the packet feeding guidelines so that you know how much to feed.

So, Is it a good food to buy?

A quality food that can be fed to support your puppy's health and growth. The packaging is honest about the ingredients. Feeding method is incredibly easy and the product is overall well priced.

Would it be agreeable with my puppy?

Does your puppy have bad breath or teeth?

The dry food is made into kibble (small round biscuit like peices) which the puppy bites and chews to eat; when this happens the kibble actually helps to keep the teeth clean and remove tartar! So, if your puppy has bad breath and teeth this could be helped massively by using a dry feed.

Does your puppy have a dull or rough coat?

The diet provides essential omega 3 and 6 fatty acids for a thicker and more glossy coat. Also in the diet is a good amount of vitamin A for further skin and coat nourishment.

Individual feeding needs depend on many factors, including weight, age, size, activity level and environment. So, feeding amounts needed may vary and should be adjusted as required to maintain a lean, healthy body and weight.

If you wanted to feed a mixed diets, perhaps wet and dry food, then be sure to alter the feeding quantities accordingly to avoid over-feeding your puppy.

Gone in 60 seconds!

by -

Our pup loves this food. He was grazing his original food but as soon as we gave him this, it was gone in seconds! His poo went from sloppy to solid within 24 hours too.
I'm only giving this 4 stars however, not because of the quality but because of the packaging.
It has a nifty side handle so you can pour the food out but the precut strip is useless. It has a resealable section which would be fab, if it actually sealed the entire bag but instead leaves a good inch open.

Great food, gave him extra spark and softer coat

by -

I started using this for my dog Louie, his coat became softer and skin dryness got better.

He had more oomph for life, always finished his bowl and stopped eating so much grass.

Slowly his poos are becoming more solid.

Would recommend this totally.

Great Product

by -

I received this product through #insidersuk for my 4 month old Rottweiler puppy. It's safe to say he absolutely loved this product! It filled him up but what with him being a greedy little so and so he was always happy when it came back round to dinner time! 10/10

Great food, eats it all, improved coat and skin

by -

Dog loves it, skin not so dry and he has so much more energy.

It is great dog food and would recommend to everyone.

Our collie puppy loves this food

by -

Our collie puppy loves this food, she would sit and eat it all day if we let her. Other food we have tried would sit in the bowl for ages. It smells nice and the pieces are a perfect size for her.

Tasty food!

by -

My dog loved this food more than her regular dried food. She usually leaves some in the dish but she has licked the bowl clean every meal. The food is slightly more moist than dry food and I think it gives it a better texture and flavour.

Sadly not for our pup

by -

I received this product to trial so we did. It looked and smelt really good the packaging was good and i liked the idea of the resealable bag, unfortunately it didn’t agree with our puppy, we slowly introduced it over a number of days but sadly it gave her a terrible tummy.

Proud to feed my puppy this food

by -

When I got my puppy he was being fed cheap supermarket brand food. His coat was dull and flaky, and I noticed he would go hyper after eating like a child having too many sweets. I changed him onto Purina optistart and what a difference I am seeing. I opened the bag and straight away he was there sniffing. The little circles of dog food are plain Brown so no bright unnecessary colouring used there. They were really moist and smelled very fresh. I had no problems changing his food completely over in around 4 days. No poorly tummies at all. He is thoroughly enjoying meal times, his coat after just 2 weeks looks shiny and no more dandruff. I must also add that his poops are firm and they smell much less than when he was eating the other food, which makes cleaning up after him less sickly. All in all i feel this is a fantastic food, and would recommend it to everyone

Far better than I was expecting

by -

Since I got my puppy I stuck to using the cheap kibble that the breader had used. With her getting a bit bigger I thought I would try something else to see how she would be. I have to say the results were fantastic. I really didn't expect her to notice too much of a difference but she loved it. She took to the moist food so well she will hardly look at dry kibble any more.

Great Dog Food

by -

Great food. my french bulldog loves this, its gone as soon as i put it down he loves the taste and doesn't smell bad at all! would definitley recommend.

Pup loves it!

by

We got the first bag of food from the breeder and our darling Biffy just loves it. We have absolutely no trouble getting her to eat it and she is doing really well. Happy, energetic, going on walks and sleeping well.

We will continue to buy it and would recommend.
